Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine unveiled a vibrant mural titled “Bonding through Life,” celebrating the human-animal bond. Commissioned by Dean Willie Reed and painted by artist Tia Richardson, the mural decorates the hallway connecting Lynn Hall with the new David and Bonnie Brunner Small Animal Hospital. Dedicated on April 26, 2024, the mural spans 90 feet and was created with extensive input from faculty, staff, and students through visioning workshops.

The mural project began when Dean Reed met Richardson at a Veterinary deans’ conference and was impressed by her community-engaged art. The collaborative process involved participants outlining and painting the mural using a paint-by-numbers approach. Richardson and her team added the final artistic touches. The dedication ceremony highlighted the mural’s representation of the college’s values, culture, and the significant role of the human-animal bond in enhancing emotional and physical well-being. Richardson and the college community expressed pride and joy in the collaborative achievement.
