The Ohio Department of Agriculture is constructing a $72 million, 70,000-square-foot Veterinary diagnostic lab on its Reynoldsburg campus, set to complete in 2026. Named the Ohio Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, it will replace the outdated Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory and expand testing capacity by 40% to improve biosecurity, biosafety, and diagnostic capabilities. This new state-of-the-art facility will support Ohio’s agricultural industry by providing over 450 tests essential for diagnosing animal diseases, reducing the need for out-of-state testing.

The lab will be housed in the Dr. Tony Forshey Animal Health Building, honoring Ohio’s former state veterinarian. Funded by $65.6 million released by the Ohio Controlling Board, the project reflects Ohio’s commitment to advancing its agricultural infrastructure. Additionally, $4 million was allocated to enhance a multiuse trail at Blackhand Gorge Nature Preserve, promoting broader community benefits across the county.
