As pet ownership surged during the pandemic, employees increasingly seek pet-related benefits. Despite 23 million U.S. households adopting pets during this time, 76% of employers still don’t offer pet insurance, even though 22% of HR professionals have received such requests. Beyond pet insurance, employees are interested in pet-friendly policies, with 64% saying paid time off for pet emergencies would impact their employment decisions, and 57% using personal sick days to care for pets.

Flexible pet boarding support and time off for new pets are also appealing, with 62% considering boarding costs when taking time off and 67% desiring time to care for new pets. Many employees now prioritize pet-friendly perks over traditional benefits, with 71% preferring a pet-friendly office to an on-site game room. As pet-related perks gain popularity, companies may benefit from offering these unique benefits to meet evolving employee needs.
