Great Falls College MSU’s Veterinary Technician program has received a $250,000 grant from the USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture to support workforce training. The funding helped establish the program, cover accreditation costs, develop an online curriculum, and purchase training tools, including software and simulation models. The program began with 26 students enrolled in its first semester, where they gain foundational Veterinary knowledge and office skills while earning a certificate in Veterinary office studies. Students will later apply to the vet tech program, which includes online coursework and hands-on training with approved Veterinary partners.
The grant also supports training for Veterinary partners in Great Falls and provides video equipment for students to document hands-on assignments. This initiative addresses Montana’s vet tech shortage, with plans for long-term development in Veterinary education. Although a Veterinary school project is on hold, the grant marks significant progress for the college’s growing Veterinary programs.
