The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued warning letters to three companies—Bailey’s Wellness, Holista, and House of Alchemy—for marketing unapproved cannabidiol (CBD) products for pets. These products, including oils, chews, and pellets, were promoted with unproven health claims and have not been approved as safe or effective under the federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
The FDA expressed particular concern over the use of these products in food-producing animals, citing a lack of safety data regarding potential CBD residues in meat, milk, and eggs, which could pose risks to human consumers. The companies were ordered to cease sales and given 15 business days to respond with corrective plans. Failure to comply may result in legal enforcement actions, such as product seizures or court injunctions. The warnings highlight the FDA’s continued scrutiny of unregulated CBD use in animals and its potential impact on both animal and human health.
