The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) has introduced the 2023 AAHA Technician Utilization Guidelines to address challenges in the Veterinary field, particularly in the recruitment and retention of skilled team members. The guidelines aim to optimize the utilization of credentialed Veterinary technicians, addressing issues such as burnout, low pay, and decreased job satisfaction. Proper utilization of Veterinary technicians has been shown to enhance team efficiency, increase access to Veterinary services, and improve patient care.

The guidelines provide tools for team member utilization assessment, outline levels of Veterinary technician utilization, and offer case examples of optimal utilization. The initiative encourages practices to create utilization teams and perform gap analyses to identify tasks that could be delegated to credentialed Veterinary technicians, fostering job satisfaction and practice growth.
