Veterinarian Sheridan Lathe and her partner James Brown, operating under the moniker Vet Tails, provide free or low-cost Veterinary care to pets and wildlife aboard their boat, SV Chuffed. The couple, based in Ship Bottom, engages in their mission to improve animal health and welfare while documenting their journey for a global audience.
The Vet Tails initiative adheres to the ‘One Health’ philosophy, recognizing the interconnectedness of animal, ecosystem, and human health. Lathe, known as Dr. Sheddy, founded Vet Tails in 2017, and the couple sails to remote or coastal locations, offering Veterinary services. They recently secured a $1.1 million USDA grant to explore links between plant and animal genomes and their physiological characteristics, contributing to deeper insights in agricultural production.
