Walmart is expanding its pet care business by opening five new pet service centers in Arizona and Georgia, offering Veterinary care and grooming services. These centers, operated by PetIQ but branded as Walmart, will provide routine vet care, wellness exams, and grooming for cats and dogs. This move follows the success of Walmart’s first pet service center in Atlanta, which saw strong customer traffic and repeat business.

The expansion reflects Walmart’s strategy to capitalize on the growing pet care market, which saw a surge during the pandemic, leading to increased spending on pets. Pet services offer higher margins than products like pet food and help drive sales of related items. Walmart’s pet services have also attracted younger, more affluent customers, particularly Gen Z. Unlike its human healthcare clinics, which Walmart closed due to operational challenges, the company believes pet care is simpler, more profitable, and aligns with its broader retail offerings.
