A recent study from the University of Lincoln explored the impact of the Zigzag dog-training app on puppy behavioral issues. Analyzing 367 dog owners who either used only the app or provided no training, researchers found that greater completion of the app’s first four chapters was generally associated with reduced severity of common problem behaviors. Notable improvements were seen in issues such as house soiling, familiar aggression, chewing, barking, escaping, and noise fear.
While the study is observational and cannot confirm causation, it suggests the app may help prevent behavioral problems, especially for owners lacking access to in-person training. The app’s emphasis on emotional and cognitive development over obedience may contribute to better owner-dog relationships. Although more research is needed—including randomized trials—to confirm efficacy, the findings highlight the potential of educational apps as accessible tools to support early dog training and reduce reliance on aversive techniques, which are often linked to poor welfare outcomes.
