The Columbus Zoo is preparing for the arrival of two endangered great apes this fall, raising hope for the conservation of these rare species. The zoo is anticipating the birth of a baby Bornean orangutan, which is a significant event since it’s the first baby orangutan in over 60 years.

In addition, they are expecting a baby bonobo, which will be the first born in the United States in three years and the first at the Columbus Zoo since 2016. The births are not only exciting for the zoo but also for the conservation efforts as orangutans are critically endangered, and bonobos are classified as endangered.
