Nationwide Pet Insurance has cautioned pet owners and Veterinary professionals about common holiday hazards for pets, based on the analysis of over 1.2 million insured pets. The top five risks include the ingestion of foreign objects (average claim cost $2,400), chocolate and caffeine toxicity (average claim cost $618), alcohol toxicity (average claim cost $869), poisoning from plant-based items (average claim cost $610), and burns and electric shock (average claim cost $180).

Nationwide recommends pet-proofing homes, blocking off tempting areas, and crating pets when leaving the house to mitigate these risks. The insights aim to raise awareness and promote a safe holiday season for pets.
