A survey by PetSmart Charities reveals that 75% of singles are disillusioned with dating apps, but owning a cat can enhance their dating prospects. The survey indicates that over two-thirds of singles view having a cat as appealing, with 71% of Gen Z more likely to date cat enthusiasts. As kitten season fills shelters, PetSmart Charities’ Purrfect Match encourages singles to adopt cats, aligning with the trend that 74% of PetSmart adoptions are cats. Cat owners are seen as fun, playful, and intelligent—traits desirable in romantic partners. Additionally, nearly three-quarters of new cat owners prefer dating fellow cat owners.

Aimee Gilbreath, president of PetSmart Charities, notes the surge in cat adoptions, which now surpass dog adoptions, and the changing perceptions of cat owners. Partnering with Millionaire Matchmaker Patti Stanger, PetSmart Charities offers a chance for singles to win relationship coaching. The initiative aims to show that adopting a cat can lead to finding human love, with the entry period running from July 17 to August 7.
