Pet owners in Palm Beach County are being targeted by a new scam involving lost pets. Scammers, posing as employees from the county’s Division of Animal Care and Control (ACC), call pet owners who have posted their contact information on lost pet websites. These callers claim that the owners’ pets are injured and request money for medical treatment.
The ACC clarifies that they never ask for money over the phone and treat injured animals while trying to locate their owners. Victims of such calls should report them to law enforcement and the website where their lost pet is listed. The affected websites include PetCo Love Lost, PawBoost, Loxahatchee Lost and Found (Facebook page), and NextDoor. All lost pets held at ACC can be found on the official county website, pbcgov.com/SNAP.
