The Mars Global Pet Parent Study, based on insights from over 20,000 pet parents across 20 countries, highlights the evolving needs and behaviors of pet owners, revealing a new era of pet-centric care. Nearly half (47%) of respondents are first-time pet owners, indicating a growing trend in pet adoption. Emotional bonds between pets and owners are stronger than ever, with 37% of pet parents considering their pets the most important part of their lives, particularly among Gen Z (45%).
Sustainability is becoming a key factor in pet food purchases, with 45% of pet parents, especially younger generations, prioritizing sustainable products. The study also found that most dogs and cats are acquired as puppies or kittens, and pet ownership is more common among men (52% cat owners). Despite the benefits, challenges remain, such as guilt over leaving pets alone (32%) and difficulty traveling with pets (26%). Mars Petcare aims to address these pain points through innovation and support for pet parents.
