Rowan University celebrated a milestone with the signing of the final beam for New Jersey’s first veterinary school, the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine, on its West Campus in Gloucester County. The $176 million facility will house both the Veterinary school and the Virtua Health College Research Center. Set to open in August 2025, the school will offer hands-on experience from day one, according to founding dean Dr. Matthew Edson.

Currently, 30 staff members are developing an innovative curriculum, and the school plans to hire 100 more, including clinicians for a 24-hour animal hospital. J&J Snack Food chairman Gerry Shreiber donated $30 million for scholarships, lending his name to the school. This new facility aims to retain New Jersey students interested in Veterinary medicine, providing an affordable opportunity to study and practice in-state, particularly in South Jersey, where there is a significant demand due to the region’s farming and agricultural activities.
