The UC Cooperative Extension has developed a mobile app, UC Community Chicken, aimed at aiding backyard chicken owners and game fowl breeders in raising healthy poultry. To assess its effectiveness, the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine is conducting a study offering compensation to participants who use the app for two weeks and provide feedback.

The app includes six educational modules covering various aspects of poultry care, with features for communication with experts and other owners. Participants must be at least 13 years old for chicken owners and 18 years old for breeders, with access to Apple or Android devices. Those who complete the study and follow-up survey will receive a $25 Amazon gift card, while partial participation will also be compensated. Registration for the study is available online, with notifications sent to participants when it begins. The app will be publicly available after the study concludes. Contact Maurice Pitesky for more information.
