The World Veterinary Association (WVA) and Health for Animals have announced the theme for World Veterinary Day 2024 as “Veterinarians are essential health workers.” Scheduled for April 27, the event aims to recognize veterinarians’ role in safeguarding both animal and human health, emphasizing their contributions to public health and community well-being. This year’s award underscores the importance of integrating Veterinary expertise into overall health systems, as Veterinary science not only enhances animal welfare, but it also impacts human physical, mental, and social well-being.

Since its inception in 2000, World Veterinary Day has celebrated the Veterinary profession annually on the last Saturday of April. Partnering with Health for Animals since 2019, the WVA presents the World Veterinary Day Award, offering $5,000 to the most impactful initiative promoting the annual theme. Past winners include the AVMA for their COVID-19 response resources. More information is available on the WVA website.
