Canada and the United Kingdom have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to improve regulatory efficiency for Veterinary biologics, including animal vaccines. The agreement was announced jointly by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and the UK’s Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD). It aims to strengthen collaboration in the oversight and approval of animal vaccines, recognizing their importance to animal health, public health, food security, and economic stability.
Under the MOU, both countries will work together to streamline pre-market assessment and approval processes by sharing scientific expertise and regulatory information, aligning priorities, and exploring opportunities for joint product reviews. This approach is intended to reduce duplication, ease regulatory burdens on industry, and speed access to essential veterinary products. Officials emphasized that the agreement supports farmers, pet owners, and the broader food supply chain while reinforcing the strong working relationship between Canada and the UK and their shared commitment to protecting animal health.
