As the federal government shutdown enters its fifth week, the Indraloka Animal Sanctuary in Falls Township, Pa. is expanding services at its NEPA Rescue Veterinary Clinic to assist government employees affected by the stoppage. Director of Development Robin Olson said the initiative aims to ease the burden for families forced to choose between caring for themselves and their pets. The clinic, launched in 2023 to serve rescue organizations and later low-income individuals, now welcomes shutdown-affected workers who can show income loss.
Services include exams, vaccines, medications, microchipping, and spay/neuter procedures for all domestic animals. Staffed by two veterinarians and support personnel, the clinic offers flexible hours, including evenings and weekends. Olson noted growing inquiries from furloughed federal employees, emphasizing the goal of helping families maintain their pets’ health during financial hardship while political gridlock continues to delay pay and government funding negotiations.
