A growing wave of vaccine skepticism in the U.S., intensified since the COVID-19 pandemic, is now affecting Veterinary medicine. Denver veterinarian Dr. Alex Robb of Goodheart Animal Health Center notes that distrust in pet vaccines, present even before the pandemic, has “super-charged” in recent years. He attributes the shift partly to the influence of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a long-time vaccine skeptic who has placed like-minded individuals in key health positions.
Dr. Robb emphasizes that vaccines for pets are essential, particularly for rabies, a nearly always fatal disease with no cure. He reassures that pet vaccines are safe, rigorously tested, and legally required in Colorado. Robb urges pet owners to discuss any vaccine concerns openly with their veterinarians to ensure the best health outcomes for their animals through mutual understanding and trust.
