The AVMA Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) is seeking public feedback on proposed updates to specific educational skills within accredited Veterinary technology programs. Comments must be submitted via an online survey by October 15, 2025. The proposed revisions focus on Standard 11 (Outcomes Assessment), specifically Section 11a example surveys, and Appendix G, which addresses cyclical review of Section 8 covering laboratory animal procedures.
To aid review, AVMA notes that required skills are marked with an asterisk, italicized skills denote hands-on tasks, and “demonstrate” in relation to knowledge-based skills allows instructor discretion in assessing mastery. Group-designated tasks may be completed collaboratively, but all students must actively participate. In addition, italicized skills must be performed directly by students and assessed on live animals. The AVMA estimates the survey will take 15–20 minutes to complete, offering an opportunity for the Veterinary community and public to help shape training standards for future technicians.
