Hill’s Pet Nutrition has partnered with the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention (APOP) to combat the rising pet obesity crisis, affecting nearly two-thirds of U.S. dogs and cats. The collaboration aims to enhance Veterinary communication, provide educational resources, and promote evidence-based weight management strategies. Dr. Karen Shenoy, Hill’s Chief Veterinary Officer, highlights the importance of sensitive yet crucial discussions about pet weight. The partnership also supports APOP’s annual survey, offering insights into pet owner perceptions, as studies show many owners fail to recognize their pets as overweight.
In addition, a separate study will examine implicit biases in veterinary care to ensure equitable treatment. Dr. Leslie Hancock, Hill’s Chief Medical Officer, stresses the need to address biases for balanced nutritional recommendations. This initiative aligns with Hill’s broader “End Pet Obesity” campaign, reinforcing its commitment to pet health. Hill’s Pet Nutrition operates globally, with research and manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Europe.
