Nancy Benson Ward has established a $100,000 endowed scholarship at Arkansas State University to honor her late brother, Dr. Bill W. Benson. The newly created Dr. Bill W. Benson Memorial Scholarship will support full-time students admitted to A-State’s College of Veterinary Medicine, which is expected to open in fall 2026. Benson, a Hampton, Arkansas native, dedicated 40 years to Veterinary practice in suburban Baltimore, building a legacy of compassionate animal care and community service.
Ward said the scholarship continues her brother’s lifelong commitment to helping animals and others by supporting future veterinarians who share his passion. Dr. Heidi Banse, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, expressed appreciation for the gift, noting its meaningful impact on students’ educational journeys. The first award will be presented in the 2026–27 academic year as the college prepares to welcome 120 students to its inaugural class in a new 56,000-square-foot facility.
