Concerns within the Veterinary community have prompted the International Council for Veterinary Assessment to commission an independent audit of the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination. Questions have been raised about how the NAVLE is developed, administered, and scored, leading ICVA to emphasize the need to ensure the exam remains a fair and impartial measure of entry-level Veterinary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
In response, ICVA announced that a third-party organization will conduct a comprehensive review of the examination process. The decision comes as the NAVLE continues to grow significantly, with a record 9,301 exams administered this year, representing a 51% increase over the past five years. The exam is delivered at Prometric testing centers throughout North America and select international locations during three annual testing windows: fall, spring, and summer. ICVA stated that the audit is still in its early stages and that updates will be shared with the Veterinary community as the process moves forward.
