Veterinary nurse Becky Lacy has launched Animalance RVA, a specialized pet transport service in Richmond to assist pet owners facing mobility or transportation challenges. With over 20 years of experience, Lacy was part of the team that cared for Tommie, the pit bull set on fire in Richmond six years ago.
She converted a large van into the “Animalance”, which accommodates both small and large pets. Sometimes, her own dog, Yuki, joins the rides. Lacy saw the need firsthand, as many pet owners delay Veterinary care due to a lack of transportation.
Beyond transport, Lacy helps pet owners navigate emergency situations, ensuring pets get home safely after surgery or hospital visits. Animalance RVA operates daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with after-hours service available. Though the service doesn’t provide medical assistance yet, Lacy hopes to expand soon while keeping rides affordable for those in need.
