Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) is accepting applications for its Rural Veterinary Scholarship to help address the growing shortage of veterinarians in rural Texas. As many long-serving rural veterinarians near retirement and fewer graduates enter large-animal and mixed practices, ranchers in some areas face limited access to essential veterinary services. To support students committed to rural practice, TFB will award four scholarships of $20,000 each, along with four additional finalist scholarships of $2,500.
The program is open to second- and third-year veterinary students enrolled in Texas DVM programs at Texas A&M University or Texas Tech University who plan to work in rural and/or food animal practices in Texas after graduation. Scholarship recipients must be Texas Farm Bureau members and maintain membership during the award period. TFB leaders say the scholarships aim to reduce financial barriers and encourage students to serve rural communities, where veterinarians are vital for livestock health, disease prevention, and food safety. Applications are due by March 2, 2026.
