The University of California, Davis, has acquired a building in San Diego to establish the Janice K. Hobbs UC Davis Veterinary Medical Center Southern California, scheduled to open in fall 2025 after renovations. Named after philanthropist Jan Hobbs, who facilitated the purchase, the center will offer 24/7 emergency and critical care for pets, alongside expanded specialty services like cardiology, oncology, and hemodialysis for kidney failure, making it one of the few centers in the country to provide such advanced treatments.
It will also cater to exotic animals and wildlife and collaborate with the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance. The 23,000-square-foot facility aims to bolster UC Davis’s expertise, offering broader training opportunities for students and reinforcing its position as the top-ranked Veterinary school in the nation.
