The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents has approved the establishment of the Center for Comparative Genomics to advance research in animal genetics. A joint initiative of Texas A&M AgriLife Research, the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, the center will enhance genomic research and training opportunities.

Led by Dr. William Murphy, the center will focus on genomic advancements in human and animal health, agriculture, biodiversity, and species conservation. Faculty have been involved in sequencing over 300 animal species, contributing to agricultural and medical research. The initiative builds on Texas A&M’s 30-year leadership in animal genetics and genomics. The center is funded by a $5 million Chancellor’s Research Initiative grant$1.8 million from AgriLife Research, and additional start-up support for faculty recruitment. The center aims to foster interdisciplinary research, secure further funding, and strengthen Texas A&M’s global impact in genomics.
