Veterinarian Eric Knock suffered severe injuries in September 2022 when his skull was crushed between a chute frame and squeeze mechanism while working with cattle. Though he avoided surgery, Knock endured multiple skull fractures, brain bleeding, nerve damage, and ear trauma, requiring months of recovery.
Now, Knock shares his story through Telling the Story Project, an initiative aimed at raising awareness of agricultural safety. The project, supported by multiple agricultural safety and health centers funded by NIOSH, uses firsthand accounts to educate farmers and ranchers about injury prevention.
Knock’s experience has changed his approach to safety, making him more aware of his surroundings and potential hazards. He now emphasizes the importance of recognizing pinch points and staying alert to protect himself and others. The project’s motto, “Tell a story, save a life,” underscores its mission to inspire safer practices through personal testimonies, encouraging the agricultural community to prioritize safety.
