The Renewable Energy Farmers of America (REFA), a newly formed nonprofit, aims to support U.S. farmers and ranchers navigating complex renewable energy projects like wind, solar, transmission lines, and battery storage. Founded in response to increasing interest from landowners, REFA offers unbiased guidance, expert advice, and advocacy to help landowners make informed decisions while protecting their land and property rights.
Executive Director Jeff Risley emphasized the organization’s role in bridging the gap for landowners overwhelmed by the challenges of energy development. REFA provides tools to negotiate leases, plan land stewardship, and connect with a network of like-minded peers through online platforms and in-person events. Headquartered in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, REFA also collaborates with energy developers and industry professionals to ensure farmers are not alone in the process. The nonprofit aims to grow alongside the evolving energy landscape, acting as a long-term, trustworthy resource for America’s agricultural community.
