Ohio State University researchers Dr. Thomas Cherpes and Dr. Rodolfo Vicetti Miguel have received an Ohio State Accelerator Award for their project developing a novel peptide that accelerates wound repair. Supported by the College of Veterinary Medicine’s CANSL program and equine research funding, their peptide was first shown to enhance healing in mice, then validated in horses at the Galbreath Equine Center through collaborations with Drs. Hilary Rice and Caitlin Moreno, specialists in Veterinary clinical sciences.
These results confirm the peptide’s therapeutic potential in a clinically relevant setting. The Accelerator Awards program, funded by Ohio Third Frontier and Ohio State, helps advance innovations toward commercialization through startups. With this support, the team will conduct market assessments and regulatory analyses to bring their technology closer to Veterinary applications. The initiative highlights the collaborative bridge between biomedical research and practical Veterinary solutions, with promising benefits for both animal health and future human applications.
