Merck Animal Health has launched the Veterinary Wellbeing Collective, a collaborative effort aimed at improving mental health and reducing burnout within the Veterinary profession. The initiative was highlighted in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association following a July 2025 roundtable hosted at Merck’s headquarters in Rahway, New Jersey. The meeting brought together 16 experts in Veterinary wellbeing to create a more coordinated, evidence-based strategy for addressing mental health challenges.
Participants identified issues at the individual, workplace, and systemic levels, including workplace culture, stigma, leadership gaps, and limited access to mental health resources. The group plans to develop a unified definition of Veterinary wellbeing, create a centralized online resource database, and launch joint communications initiatives. Organizers emphasized shifting from fragmented efforts toward proactive collaboration to build a healthier, more sustainable Veterinary profession for future generations.
