The Feline Veterinary Medical Association has launched the FelineVMA Heart Health Certificate Program, a new educational initiative designed to help first-opinion veterinarians better detect, diagnose, and manage feline heart disease. Announced on May 7, 2026, the Program aims to improve outcomes for cats by expanding cardiac expertise within general Veterinary practice, especially for patients without access to specialists.
According to Joshua Stern, DVM, PhD, DACVIM (Cardiology), up to one in seven cats may have undiagnosed heart disease, highlighting the need for earlier detection and intervention. The Program equips veterinarians with practical clinical tools to identify cardiac conditions sooner, manage cases confidently, and collaborate more effectively with veterinary cardiologists.
The curriculum includes 12 RACE-approved continuing education modules covering topics such as feline cardiac anatomy, diagnostics, cardiomyopathies, congestive heart failure, thromboembolism, ultrasound, case studies, and client communication. The Program was developed by Veterinary cardiology experts with support from educational grants and reflects the FelineVMA’s commitment to advancing feline healthcare standards.
