Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine celebrated the graduation of its second Doctor of Veterinary Medicine class during a commencement ceremony at the Amarillo Civic Center Auditorium. A total of 80 students earned DVM degrees, marking another milestone for the young program as it continues addressing veterinary workforce shortages in Texas and surrounding rural communities.
The graduates began their studies in 2022 and completed a curriculum focused on preparing veterinarians for service in rural, regional, and large-animal practices. More than 90% of the Class of 2026 will begin careers in those underserved areas, while more than half secured employment through clinical practice partnerships developed during their training.
The ceremony included remarks from university leaders and keynote speaker Dr. Steven Golla, chairman of the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners, who emphasized service, leadership, and adaptability in Veterinary medicine. Dean Guy Loneragan praised the class for strengthening the school’s culture and commitment to expanding access to Veterinary care where it is needed most.
