ADM, Mars Petcare US, Inc., and Royal Canin are collaborating to integrate regenerative agriculture practices into the pet food industry. This initiative incentivizes farmers in Iowa, Minnesota, and Nebraska to adopt sustainable techniques like cover crops, no-till farming, and fertilizer efficiency programs. These practices aim to enhance soil health, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, improve water quality, and support biodiversity. The program, supported by Gradable for monitoring and verification, will cover over 100,000 acres in 2024, advancing ADM’s goal of five million regenerative acres by 2025.
Both Mars and Royal Canin emphasize the importance of sustainability in their supply chains, aligning with their broader climate strategies. Mars has already achieved significant GHG reductions and is scaling climate-smart agriculture to meet its targets. ADM’s global approach to regenerative agriculture has reached 2.8 million acres in 2023 and continues to expand through partnerships with companies like PepsiCo, Nestlé, and Carlsberg, demonstrating industry-wide commitment to sustainability.
