Veterinarians in Massachusetts are warning pet owners about a recall of a specific rabies vaccine batch that may have left some animals unprotected. The recalled product is IMRAB 3TF, one-milliliter rabies vaccine, serial number 18665, manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim. According to the company, certain vials from this lot contained sterile water instead of the active rabies vaccine. While the issue poses no direct safety risk to pets, animals that received the affected doses may not be protected against rabies.
Veterinarians who received the batch have been notified and are contacting impacted pet owners about revaccination. Massachusetts law requires rabies vaccination for dogs and cats, making the recall particularly concerning. Pet owners can check their animal’s rabies certificate for the product name and serial number. Officials advise anyone concerned to contact their veterinarian promptly, as revaccination is recommended for all pets who received doses from the recalled lot.
