Kansas City-based Bar K, voted USA Today’s No. 1 dog bar in the U.S. in 2024 and dubbed “doggie Disney World” by its CEO, has closed its doors. Known for blending a dog park with a bar and restaurant that catered to both pets and people, Bar K struggled to generate sustainable revenue despite its unique concept. On July 29, it abruptly shut down all three locations, including St. Louis.
Less than a week later, on Aug. 4, Bar K Holdings LLC and subsidiaries—Bear Bishop LLC, Bar K STL LLC, and Stay! At Bar K LLC—filed voluntary Chapter 7 bankruptcy petitions. Each entity filed separately, listing its own assets and liabilities, and hired Kansas City law firm Seigfreid Bingham PC for representation. Notably, the Oklahoma City affiliate, Bar K Dogbar OKC, has not yet filed for bankruptcy, according to public records. The closures mark the end of Bar K’s rapid but financially unsustainable expansion.
