The BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope event runs from December 1 to December 17, offering reduced-fee adoptions to help homeless pets find homes. Over 400 shelters in 45 states are participating, including several in Oklahoma, such as the Tulsa SPCA, Enid SPCA, and Washington County SPCA.
Cathy Bissell, the foundation’s founder, emphasized the critical need for adoption as shelters face an influx of pets. She described the event as a “lifeline” for tens of thousands of animals of all breeds, ages, and personalities waiting for homes. Adopters can visit the Empty the Shelters website to locate nearby shelters. This initiative not only facilitates adoptions, but also encourages fostering during the holiday season, aiming to provide relief for overburdened shelters and hope for pets in need.
