Chihuahuas have overtaken Labrador Retrievers as the most common dog breed in the U.S., according to a 2025 JustAnswer analysis of 115,000 pet-related conversations. Pitbulls, Yorkies, and Shepherds rounded out the top five, while French Bulldogs entered the top 10 for the first time. On the naming front, “Luna” dethroned “Bella” as America’s most popular dog name, with “Daisy,” “Lucy,” and “Charlie” completing the top five.
Regional favorites also emerged, such as “Lucy” in the Midwest and “Daisy” in the West. The study also highlighted how naming impacts training, with experts advising against names that resemble common commands or similar-sounding pet names. Beyond names and breeds, health concerns dominated owners’ questions, with chocolate ingestion, digestive issues, injuries, and bloating topping the list. The findings underscore both the shifting cultural trends in dog ownership and the enduring anxieties pet parents face in safeguarding their dogs’ health and happiness.
