Dr. Michael Q. Bailey has become the first African-American president of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) for the 2025–2026 term. A board-certified Veterinary radiologist, educator, and clinician, Dr. Bailey aims to elevate the global recognition of veterinarians and inspire future professionals. His initiatives focus on enhancing the profession’s visibility, voice, and societal impact.

Dr. Bailey earned degrees from Rutgers University and Tuskegee University and completed his residency at Michigan State University. He founded Ohio’s first private-practice Veterinary CT imaging service and has led imaging facilities in Pittsburgh. He also serves as director of medical innovations in telemedicine. Previously a faculty member at Tuskegee, Michigan State, and Ohio State University, he held leadership roles in state and national Veterinary associations.
Dr. Bailey emphasizes the importance of building a purposeful future inspired by Veterinary history. Meanwhile, Dr. Jennifer K. Quammen was named AVMA president-elect for 2026–2027.
