In the aftermath of a deadly tornado in southcentral Kentucky, Country Hills Veterinary Hospital in Prestonsburg is stepping up to help pets harmed or displaced by the disaster. Practice Manager Ashleigh Goff explained that many animals were injured or went into hiding during the storm and are now emerging with visible wounds. To support recovery efforts, Country Hills has partnered with Corbin Animal Clinic to collect essential pet supplies like crates, carriers, leashes, and tie-outs.
While pet food needs have largely been met, other supplies remain critical as families struggle to care for their animals amid ongoing cleanup. Goff noted that many pet owners lack fenced yards or secure spaces, forcing them to keep pets close while salvaging belongings. Some displaced residents also face challenges securing temporary housing due to unvaccinated pets. The clinics are offering support, including holding onto pets until their owners are found, and the donation drive will continue for several weeks.
