Every year, I’ve made New Year’s Resolutions, and every year, they’ve fallen apart well before February. Sound familiar? It’s not just us—resolutions fail for 80% of people, according to U.S. News & World Report. Most of us lose motivation just weeks into the year because resolutions are often too broad or unrealistic.

This year, I’m trying something different—setting small, achievable goals to stay focused and productive. To keep myself on track, I’ve created a themed weekly schedule. You’ll notice my love for alliteration throughout—it’s not just for fun. Alliteration creates a rhythm that propels you forward, and studies have shown that it can improve memory better than imagery or meaning. It’s a tool that’s as practical as it is motivating.

Whether you’re a Veterinary professional in practice, a corporate leader supporting the profession, or an entrepreneur innovating new solutions, these tips are flexible and adaptable. Think of them as a starting point to create a system that works best for you.

Momentum Monday

I like to start my week with purpose, so Mondays are all about growth. Whether I’m connecting with new clients, networking with industry peers, or brainstorming ways to expand services, this day is my foundation for a strong week. If you’re a Veterinary technician, you might focus on exploring certifications or learning opportunities to enhance your skills. Starting the week with energy sets the tone for everything that follows.

Task-Tackling Tuesday

Tuesdays are my catch-up day. I tackle the tasks I’ve been avoiding—organizing patient files, updating inventory, or finally addressing that equipment maintenance I keep putting off. It’s not glamorous, but clearing my to-do list feels incredible and makes space for more meaningful work later in the week.

Writing Wednesday

Midweek is my time for focus and creativity. Wednesdays are dedicated to writing. In Veterinary medicine, this might mean developing client education materials, blogs, or social media posts. For practice managers, it could be creating FAQs for clients or enhancing patient care processes. By prioritizing my writing, I stay ahead of deadlines and consistently add value to my work.

Think-Ahead Thursday

Thursdays are for reflection and planning. I carve out time to think strategically—whether it’s comparing practice management software, analyzing workflows, or setting professional goals. In today’s world of endless distractions, it’s easy to fill open time with scrolling TikTok or busywork. Giving myself permission to think without interruptions has been a game changer for staying ahead and building a clearer vision for the future.

Finance Friday

Fridays are all about financial health. I review budgets, track expenses, and plan for future investments. For practice owners, this might mean preparing for tax season or identifying areas to save on continuing education for the entire healthcare team. While it’s not always the most exciting part of the week, focusing on finances keeps me grounded and ensures long-term stability.

Staying on Track

What I love about these tips is how adaptable they are. Whether you’re a veterinarian in a busy clinic, a technician managing patients, a professional in a corporate setting, or an entrepreneur building something new, these themes can help you focus your energy, stay organized, and achieve your goals.

It’s not about rigidly following a script—it’s about creating a structure that aligns with your unique role and drives progress in the areas that matter most.

Here’s to making 2025 productive, purposeful, and filled with progress—one day at a time. Let’s do this!
