Two Houston-based non-profits, the Houston Humane Society and Pure Mutts Animal Sanctuary, need help after Hurricane Beryl caused significant damage. The Houston Humane Society, a no-kill shelter that never turns away lost dogs, saw its dog play area fence severely damaged. Despite this, they remain committed to disaster relief efforts, providing resources such as pet food, crates, and other essentials to those affected. Aaron Grady, the Humane Society Director, emphasized the importance of monetary donations to support their ongoing efforts.
Meanwhile, Pure Mutts Animal Sanctuary in Conroe, founded by Priyanka Johri, is facing its own challenges. The sanctuary, unique for taking in dogs with nowhere else to go and providing them a permanent home, was hit hard by Beryl. Downed trees caused extensive damage to the fences, restricting the dogs’ usual freedom. Johri expressed heartbreak over the destruction, comparing it to a bomb going off and ruining what she has built over the last 16-17 years.
