Jonathan Monahan, a Canadian chartered professional accountant and lifelong aviation enthusiast, combines his love of flying with animal rescue as a volunteer pilot for Canadian Wings of Rescue, a nonprofit that transports at-risk pets to safety. Monahan, who began flying at age 12 and earned his private pilot’s license over a decade ago, recently completed one of the organization’s largest feline missions, transporting 19 cats from overcrowded shelters in Fort St. John to Victoria, British Columbia.
Despite turbulence and thunderstorms, the cats remained calm, even purring mid-flight. Monahan has also flown dogs, including a Golden Retriever named Rosie, to new foster homes. His volunteer work fulfills a lifelong passion for helping animals, inspired by his childhood rescuing stray cats in rural Nova Scotia. For Monahan, these missions blend adventure, freedom, and compassion—turning his cockpit into a lifeline for animals in need across Canada.
