A theft at B Street Veterinary Hospital in San Diego has left the clinic without power, causing major disruptions and financial losses. Late Saturday night, a thief stole the hospital’s breaker box, an act captured on surveillance footage. The loss of electricity forced the facility to turn away many urgent care cases and cancel surgeries, with staff resorting to headlamps and natural light to treat pets.
Dr. Jenna Olsen, an associate veterinarian, reported losses of at least $20,000 in spoiled blood supplies and vaccines due to lack of refrigeration. The total financial impact is estimated at $40,000–$50,000. Most staff were sent home, and only limited treatments could be performed. The hospital has since hired private security and filed a police report, though there’s been no official response. An electrician indicated such thefts are becoming more frequent. Olsen emphasized the real victims are the pets and families who rely on their care.
