The December 2025 Petflation report shows pet-related prices rising again, with year-over-year inflation reaching 3.5%, up from 2.6% in November and now nearly 30% higher than the national CPI. Overall U.S. inflation held steady at 2.7%, while grocery prices increased to 2.4%. In December, total pet prices rose 0.8% month over month, with increases across all segments. Veterinary services continue to drive the highest inflation, rising 7.1% year over year and remaining the most inflated category since 2019.
Pet services followed at 5.0%, while pet food inflation remained relatively low at 1.2% and supplies hovered near zero. Although petflation has slowed compared to peak years, prices remain historically high, nearly 29% above 2019 levels. Analysts warn that cumulative inflation will continue influencing consumer behavior, potentially reducing Veterinary visit frequency, shifting purchases online, and increasing private-label adoption across pet product categories.
