The Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) has launched the “Paw It Forward” campaign to help keep pets out of shelters by supporting pet owners in financial need. The initiative aims to raise over $30,000—matched dollar-for-dollar—to fund PAWS’ safety net programs, which include low-cost Veterinary care, temporary foster housing, behavioral support, and essential supplies like pet food and litter.
Cory Topel of PAWS emphasized that many people are forced to surrender their pets due to financial hardship, especially in Philadelphia, where 20% of residents live below the poverty line. PAWS seeks to prevent these heartbreaking separations by offering practical support, helping preserve the vital bond between pets and their owners. The organization stresses that this human-animal connection enhances community well-being and deserves protection, regardless of socioeconomic status. Contributions of any size are welcome, and more details are available on the PAWS “Paw It Forward” webpage.
