The Phoenix Zoo has received a $500,000 grant from Thunderbirds Charities, completing its $6.2 million fundraising goal to build a new, state-of-the-art Veterinary medical center. This over 27,000-square-foot facility will replace the aging Joyce Corrigan Memorial Care Center, which has served the zoo for more than 50 years.
Construction began in May and is expected to be completed by fall 2026. The center will feature advanced medical technology, including a rare CT scanner, expanded treatment areas, and improved hospital facilities. It will enhance care for the zoo’s diverse animal population, including endangered species, and support Veterinary training and education.
Located near the zoo’s Africa Trail, the new clinic is part of the Animal Care & Conservation Campus, which includes partnerships with the Arizona Center for Nature Conservation and Midwestern University. Zoo officials praised the donation as a long-term investment in animal welfare, education, and community engagement.
