Charlie, a 10-year-old yellow lab with a passion for surfing, was one of 15 to 20 dogs who competed in the World Dog Surfing Championships in Pacifica, California, just south of San Francisco. This popular annual event draws thousands of spectators to Pacifica State Beach, where canine surfers ride the waves in monogrammed life vests, cheered on by enthusiastic crowds.
Dogs compete in heats based on size, with some events featuring tandem rides with other dogs or their human companions.
