Blue Ridge Beef has issued a recall of over 2,300 pounds of its 2-pound Kitten Mix and Puppy Mix products due to possible contamination with salmonella and listeria. The affected pet food, shipped between January 3 and 24, was distributed in several eastern U.S. states and Wisconsin. The FDA warns that both pets and humans are at risk; infected pets may show symptoms like diarrhea, fever, and vomiting, while healthy ones could still spread bacteria.
Humans handling the food without proper hygiene may also become ill, experiencing symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, and fever. In rare cases, severe complications like heart inflammation or arthritis may occur. Consumers are urged to return or dispose of the affected food and thoroughly clean any bowls or containers it touched. The FDA advises pet owners to contact a veterinarian if their animals show symptoms, and humans experiencing severe illness should seek medical attention.
